What is Parking Mode?

A dash cam’s main purpose is to record incidents while driving. However, some dash cams have the ability to record while parked. This feature is commonly called parking mode.

Dash cam parking mode is meant to record incidents such as door dings or when some one forgets to put their parking brake on and their car rolls into yours.

Does Parking Mode Automatically Turn On?

YES! Once you turn off your ignition in your vehicle the dash cam will switch from Continuous Recording mode to Parking Mode.

How Do I Enable Parking Mode?

In order to enable parking mode on a Thinkware Dash Cam you will need to do the following:

Install the dash cam with either the OBD II power cable or the hardwiring power cable. (You can learn how to hardwire your dash cam here)

Go into your Dash Cam Settings > Record Settings > Enable Parking Mode

Not all Parking Modes Are The Same.

Our Advanced Parking Mode is a standard feature on all Thinkware Dash Cams. Every Thinkware Dash Cam has a built-in voltage meter, which you can set the voltage threshold that will turn off the dash cam to preserve your vehicle’s battery.

Fully Customisable
- You can tweak and change your parking mode to suit your parking environments and your vehicle. The sensitivity of the impact detection and motion detection can be made more or less sensitive.
- There are also 3 different parking modes that you can choose from:
  - Motion + Impact Detection
  - Time Lapse
  - Energy Saving Mode
Motion + Impact Detection
- - - Motion + Impact detection is the traditional Parking Mode setting. When an impact occurs the dash cam will record 10 seconds before impact and 10 seconds after impact. Plus the Parking Mode allows the dash cam to detect and record motion. This come as standard in all Thinkware Dash Cams.
Time Lapse
- In order to maximize parking mode footage, Time Lapse reduces video file sizes by stitching together photos instead of videos. This results in the dash cam recording in 2 frames per second with no audio.
- Time Lapse videos result in a 10 minute period that is condensed into a 15 second video file.
Energy Saving Mode
- All impacts weather driving or part result in the dash cam creating an pre-buffered impact video. An impact video file is a 20 second clip, 10 seconds before the impact and 10 seconds after.
- Energy saving mode does not record motion or a pre-buffered impact video. The dash cam will only record 20 seconds after an impact while in Energy Saving Mode in order to keep the energy usage to a minimum.
- However, you can have a buffered impact clip in Energy Saving Mode by using the Radar Module Accessory.
